Meet the Director
With a dynamic vision for the future and a reputation as a distinguished leader within the Jewish community and beyond, Rabbi Mark Diamond was named Director of the Los Angeles region of AJC in September 2012. Prior to joining AJC, Rabbi Diamond directed the Board of Rabbis of Southern California. He founded the acclaimed America Online internet forum Ask a Rabbi, created the Los Angeles Jewish Federation’s Interreligious Action Center, and served as a rabbi for congregations in metropolitan San Francisco, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York.
Rabbi Diamond is a leader in collaborative projects, including partnerships with Fuller Theological Seminary, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, consulates general, and other diplomatic, intergroup and faith-based organizations. He is a past president of the Los Angeles Council of Religious Leaders, a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, and a member of the Pacific Council on International Study. He has organized and headed study tours of judicatory officials, clergy and community leaders, including a U.S./Mexico border trip and a mission to the Vatican and Jerusalem highlighted by an audience with Pope Benedict XVI. Rabbi Diamond delivered the commencement address at the 2013 doctoral graduation ceremony of the University of the Incarnate Word, and has taught and lectured at Pepperdine University, Loyola Marymount University, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Claremont School of Theology and other universities and seminaries.
Rabbi Diamond received his Master of Arts degree in Jewish Studies, rabbinical ordination and Doctor of Divinity (honoris causa) from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York. He is a Magna cum Laude graduate of Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota. He also studied in the Rabbinic Management Program of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem, where he is a senior rabbinic fellow.
