Past Government Affairs Committee Programs

AJC Hosts County Supervisor Don Knabe and chairs of the Port and Airports Commissions at 2011 Consular Corps Legislative Symposium

Diplomats representing 20 countries attended AJC’s 2nd annual Legislative Symposium on November 9, 2011 at the Hillcrest Country Club. The event, titled “Los Angeles as a Gateway,” highlighted Los Angeles’ international trade environment, featuring Hon. Don Knabe, Los Angeles County Supervisor; Michael A. Lawson, President of the Board of Airport Commissioners; and Cindy Miscikowski, President of the Board of Harbor Commissioners. Hosted by the International Relations and Public Policy committees, the Legislative Symposium series is designed to provide diplomats posted in Los Angeles information regarding the responsibilities of the various levels of government. The program idea grew from the strong relationship AJC enjoys with the consular corps, whose members indicated that they and their staffs need to better know and understand the systems and processes of government.

Successful Outreach Efforts to Local Elected Officials

AJC-LA continues to meet with local elected officials and include them in our events. One recent example is an intimate AJC Access event consisting of dinner with City Councilmember Jose Huizar and his Chief of Staff, Ana Cubas, who participated in a Project Interchange trip. The Councilmember shared many of his important insights and projects with the group, and Ms. Cubas imparted her impressions of Israel. It was a moving and informative evening.
