Iran's Increased Presence in Latin America
Dina Siegel Vann, AJC's Director of the Latino and Latin America Institute visited Los Angeles and met with leaders in the Latino community and Latin American diplomats. At a President's Council Forum for AJC members and community partners, she spoke about Jewish communities in Latin America and their concern with increasing Anti-Semitism, the rise of authoritarian leaders such as Hugo Chavez, and the increasing presence of Iran in Latin America.

AJC says 'Adieu' to Consul General Philippe Larrieu of France
Held at the beautiful Hollywood Hills home of Madeline and Bruce Ramer (pictured on right), this farewell to the outgoing French Consul General Philippe Larrieu and his wife Angelique (pictured on left) featured French food, wine, and heartful praise for his service to Los Angeles. Au Revoir Philippe!

'ACCESS in the Media' Informs Young Leaders
Held at the lovely Beverly Hills home of Judi and Roy Kaufman, 'ACCESS in the Media' was an opportunity to ask burning questions of journalists and editors representing radio, newspaper, and blogs. Our expert panel included LA Times columnist Joel Stein, LA Observed and Truthdigg blogger Bill Boyarsky, Editor of the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles Rob Eshman, Senior Producer of 'Airtalk with Larry Mantle' on KPCC's 89.3FM Linda Othenin-Girard, and GMMB PR Partner Steve Caplan.

Jewish Community Foundation LA Awards AJC with Grant
AJC received a Jewish Community Foundation Cutting Edge grant for three years to fund the 'Essence of Judaism' program that brings in Spanish speaking scholars from around North America to teach Latino Pastors about Judaism. This award follows on the heels of the groundbreaking trip to Israel of a group of national Latino religious leaders. AJC, through Project Interchange, traveled to Israel with 12 Latino pastors from across the United States on a 10-day tour of Israeli political, social and spiritual life, from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, Sderot to the West Bank.

AJC-Hartman Institute Program in Israel 'An Enriching Experience'
Fourteen AJC LA members participated in the 28th Annual Summer Study Retreat of the Shalom Hartman Institute focused on "Sacred Jewish Narratives and Collective Memory". This mission marks the third year AJC sent participants of the ongoing Hartman Institute layleadership program, featuring monthly satellite lectures from top scholars in Jerusalem including Rabbi David Hartmann and Dr. Moshe Halbertal.

Mission to Poland an 'Eye-Opening' Experience
Sponsored by the Consulate General of Poland in Los Angeles, a group of AJC members and community leaders traveled to Poland for eight days. The program included visits to Warsaw, Auschwitz-Berkenau, and the Belzec Memorial to the Holocaust which was dedicated in 2004 through a collaboration of AJC and the Polish Government.

UCLA Fellows Discuss Muslim-Jewish Relations
On May 21st AJC Chairman Sherry Weinman and her husband Michael Umansky hosted a private reception for UCLA Senior Fellows Steve Goodman and Tufail Ahmad. Twenty prominent members of the Muslim community and twenty AJC leaders gathered to learn about the Muslim/Jewish dialogue launched by the fellows in the Metropolitan DC area.

Mourning Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev
AJC extended its condolences to the families of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, the two Israeli soldiers who were abducted and killed by Hezbollah in the summer of 2006, and whose bodies were returned today in a prisoner exchange. READ NEWS RELEASE.
Upholding Resolution 1701 on Lebanon
On the second anniversary of the end of the Second Lebanon War, AJC pressed ambassadors of UN Security Council member states to take measures to ensure all conditions of Resolution 1701 are met. READ LETTER.
